Let's Get Started!

Ok, kids. It is that time. That time when I start getting antcy about spring coming right around the corner. All of my winter riding, and there has been a lot, has taken its toll on me. I am tired of wearing laryers and tired of fighting the salt and road crap as it attempts to destroy my steel steed. Tired of constanly watching the weather to see what else the midwest and mother nature have to throw at me. I yearn for the days when I can just throw on a jersey, some shorts, my helmet and my shoes and go. Go without worrying about how cold it is or what crap will be coming out of the sky. Go without deciding what gloves to wear and if I need a wind/water layer or if I should pack my wool, just in case.

Don't get me wrong. I have had a good winter of riding. I raced some and won a street/urban race series. I saw some awesome worldclass cyclocross racing in the nasty, snowy, windy weather. I even got some trail riding in. I've had a good winter. I am just about ready to be done with it that's all.

Well, the other thing that it is time for is the beginning of my various rants and ramblings on this blog. I do this as a way to both keep this site in the back of peoples' minds so that they remember us during the last full week in July and as an outlet for my musings. Whether you like them or not. So to start us off, let's hear from Dario Pegoretti.

"MY FREEDOM"
"My bicycle is the narrow connection between sky and earth. When I spin my legs in the air the world seems infinite, and I realize I can see everywhere and everything. It is my song of freedom. When I ride the world looks so far away, I cannont even hear its noise. When I take to the road, I listen only to my Pegoretti. It speaks to me in silence. It tells me a tale of the great passion between a bike and its rider. It is the passion that makes your bike a natural extension of you body and of your dreams, a tangible piece of your own identity. The passion turns fatigue into joy, monotony into contemplation, having into being. It is the passion of the soul, between heart and mind, that gives new shape to an ancient ritual. My bike is the vessel of an abiding love. It has passed throught the hands of the wathchful craftsmen of iron and emoution, and those hands have put the fruit of passion within the tubes of the frame.
I do not exist without my passion
I cannont live without my road and my bike."
-as written on the first page of Pegoretti's catalog, 2008
